Fort McPherson (Nov 25/02) - Three girls were injured after the snowmobile they were riding collided with a truck.

According to RCMP, the 13-year-old driver of the snowmobile ran a stop sign and crashed into the truck at high speed at about 6 p.m., Nov. 17.

The driver and an 11-year-old passenger were treated and released from the nursing station for internal bleeding. The eight-year-old passenger was treated for a broken arm.

None of the girls was wearing a helmet. The snowmobile, belonging to one of the girls' mother, was wrecked, but there were only minor damages to the truck.

The young driver of the snowmobile is facing a charge of underage driving, which carries a fine of $75. The minimum age for operating a snowmobile is 14.

Meanwhile, Sgt. Kurt Lozinski says police are maintaining their snowmobile safety blitz.

In the last month, Lozinski says police have stopped and checked close to 100 snowmobilers in Fort McPherson, checking for registrations, underage drivers, speeding and proper care and control.
