Joanasie Peter was shot and killed on the evening of Aug. 23 at Andrew Gordon Bay, about 40 kilometres northwest of Cape Dorset.
RCMP Const. Steve Kielt of the Nunavut Major Crimes Unit said five officers from Iqaluit were called to help the Cape Dorset detachment with the investigation at the scene.
The boy's body was sent to Edmonton for an autopsy, which was carried out Aug. 27.
Kielt said details of the incident will not be released until the autopsy report is completed, which is expected "anytime now."
"As soon as the doctor gets them together he usually faxes us a copy so hopefully we'll hear pretty soon," said Kielt.
The Cape Dorset RCMP detachment and the Nunavut major crimes unit are continuing their investigation. Kielt said it is too soon to confirm whether charges will be laid in connection with the shooting death.
"As soon as we know where we're headed based on the (autopsy results), we'll make some decisions as quick as we can," he said.
