Yellowknife (Sep 20/02) - The dragonfly has landed.

A large painting of a dragonfly which disappeared from the Yellowknife Wharf last week has been found.

Diane Boudreau, the artist who painted the dragonfly, said the painting was picked up in error.

"The lady who picked it up, she thought it was for someone else," Boudreau said.

The four-foot by three-foot painting was lying on the wharf near a bag of dinosaur fossils, intended for a local archeologist.

The archeologist was out of town at the time.

Boudreau said the woman who was house-sitting for the archeologist stopped by to pick up the bag of fossils, and thought the painting was to be picked up as well.

"She thought she should get it out of the rain. She just had no idea that it was for someone else," Boudreau said.

The painting was quickly delivered to its new home, adorning the Empress of Yellowknife houseboat.

Boudreau, who said the painting was one of the best she's done, was happy to have the dragonfly go to its intended home.

"I didn't want to use the word stolen. I preferred disappeared, or flew away," she said.

"I thought it would come back at some point."
