Inuvik (Sep 16/02) - Grollier Hall Legacy, a four-part series on stories from more than a dozen survivors who suffered physical and sexual abuse while attending the infamous Inuvik residential school, is set to air on the Aboriginal Peoples' Television Network (APTN) Sept. 24-25 at 9 p.m.

There were at least 29 male victims at Grollier Hall, where the abuse by those running the school took place from 1959 to 1979. Several of the abusers were subsequently convicted of sex crimes and jailed. An out-of-court settlement in civil lawsuits was reached in April with 28 of the victims and the federal and territorial governments and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mackenzie.

Each half-hour program will be translated from English into Dogrib, South Slavey, North Slavey and Chipewyan, says Sabet Biscaye, executive director of the Native Communications Society, which produced the series in conjunction with the Grollier Hall Residential School Healing Circle.
