Hay River Reserve (Aug 19/02) - The K'atlodeeche First Nation on the Hay River Reserve has set a date to elect its next chief and council.

Election day is Monday, Sept. 9, with an advance poll set for Aug. 30.

The dates were determined during a general membership meeting on Aug. 12.

Elections are held every two years.

As of last week, KFN election officer Burnice Mandeville said no one had officially been nominated for any of the positions - either for chief or for councillor.

Nominations will close on Aug. 26.

In all, there are 329 eligible voters, 18 years of age and over, on the band's membership list.

The current council consists of long-time Chief Pat Martel, and councillors Frank Fabian, Raymond Sonfrere, Diane Tourangeau and Leslie Norn.

When contacted, Martel declined to offer any comment on the upcoming election or to say whether he intends to run again.
