Rae (July 08/02) - The Rae RCMP detachment is expecting to lay further charges against a 17-year-old charged with the murder of Rocky Zoe.

Zoe, a 16-year-old from Rae Lakes, was stabbed to death, police said, during an altercation at a home in Rae-Edzo during the early morning hours of June 23.

Two other young males were also injured as a result of the altercation, but were later released from hospital.

The 17-year-old male suspect was arraigned on a charge of second-degree murder on June 24.

RCMP Sgt. John Milner said he expects the suspect will soon be facing additional charges.

"The investigation is still ongoing. We're anticipating laying further charges on Monday (July 8)," said Milner.

A funeral service for Zoe was held on June 28 in Rae Lakes. Many of the victims friends and family members in Rae-Edzo attended the service to celebrate Zoe's life.

The young teenage victim has been described by friends as "a really nice guy and really shy."

The 17-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in territorial youth court in Yellowknife today.
