WCB president Penny Ballantyne confirmed Grundy has been hired as the new manager of public affairs and information. He will start his new job on June 7.

Grundy's wife, Elaine, is a recently appointed member of the WCB board of directors.

The WCB follows the GNWT staffing public service process, in which a selection committee is formed to review all potential candidates for each competition.

Ballantyne said the board of directors has no say in staffing decisions.

The WCB requested that conflict of interest commissioner Ted Hughes review the staffing recommendation before any offer was made to the former police officer.

"His advice to us was there is no conflict," said Ballantyne.

Grundy "will not, in any way, directly report to the board," she added.
