Yellowknife (May 24/02) - Five Yellowknifers will fly to Seoul, South Korea, on a 10-day trip paid for by UNICEF and the South Korean government.

Byron Hynes will chaperon Alyssa and Nat Hoeft, Brett Hodges and Sam Kennedy, who will represent Canada's Scout organizations at the World Festival of Children. As part of the trip, they will take in a World Cup soccer game between Denmark and Uruguay.

Hynes said the Yellowknife teens -- ages 11 and 13 -- will spend time with a Korean family and experience some of the Asian culture.

"It's nice that we're going from a little corner of the country, where we have our unique way of life, as well as representing a Canada that is not always what you see from Toronto or Vancouver or Montreal," said Hynes. Forty-eight countries will send Scout delegations to the event.

"It seems particularly apropos, with current world events, to see people working at promoting unity, understanding and the exchange of ideas and culture," said Hynes, a Scout leader.

The delegation leaves tomorrow.
