Arrests in airport drug bust

Iqaluit (Mar 11/02) - Police arrested three people last Thursday on drug charges after 400 grams of marijuana were found at the Iqaluit airport.

A 28-year old Iqaluit resident, headed to Panniqtuuq, was charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. The drugs have an estimated street value of $30,000.

In a related incident, police searched an Iqaluit home and found approximately $50,000 worth of marijuana (more than one kilogram).

Police charged a 34-year-old Iqaluit resident with trafficking and a 23-year old Ontario resident with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The two Iqaluit residents will appear in court on June 3. The Ontario resident was held in custody for a hearing last Friday.
