Iqaluit (Feb 04/02) - A steady stream of resignations of top mangers at city hall could be a result of the city's labour dispute.

Four senior managers have left since late December, including the directors of emergency services, finance, lands and planning, and public works.

"After a labour dispute, people do leave," said Iqaluit Mayor John Matthews. "Some of these resignations may be the result of the stress managers faced."

Matthews said council has every confidence in the chief administrative officer. "In our opinion, it's not a reflection of the style of management."

Chief administrator Rick Butler was not available for comment due to a death in his family.

Ookalik Curley, deputy chief administrator, said the managers either left for greener pastures or for personal reasons. "When they say personal reasons, they don't go into detail," she said.

Chief bylaw officer Terry Augustus declined to discuss his departure. "It's family-related," he said.
