Yellowknife (Feb 20/02) - Koinonia Christian school Grade 3 student Chris McIntosh and his family will be on their way to Ottawa in a few months.

McIntosh's hand-drawn poster commemorating Remembrance Day last year won first place in a countrywide contest held by the Royal Canadian Legion.

As a prize for winning the contest, McIntosh's poster will be featured at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. His family will be in attendance when the poster is presented to the museum next June.

McIntosh was among four students recently awarded first and second place by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 164 for their posters commemorating war veterans during Remembrance Day activities last year.

McIntosh and Ariel Laycock tied for first, along with Layah Rabesca and Nadia Wilson tying for second place. Koinonia only has 10 students. The school received word that McIntosh won nationally Feb. 11.

"We always do well in the contest," said principal Judy Reath.

"We showed the kids a video about Remembrance Day and it showed a lot of medals. The kids got really interested in the medals."

If McIntosh's achievement wasn't enough, another student at the school won the same contest three years ago.

"I don't know why we keep winning," Reath laughed.

For McIntosh, the greatest thrill will be seeing his poster hung in one of Canada's most prominent museums.

"I feel great about it," said McIntosh. "I want to go see my picture."
