Yellowknife (Jan 18/02) - After water leaked into the Northern Tykes Daycare on Jan. 16, 68 kids were turned away for the day.

"I was lucky. I found a friend to take mine," said executive director Lucy Gillard.

She got a phone call at 6 a.m. and was told that a hose came off a water tank at Northshore Coffee and Water Ltd. and pooled, spreading into the day care next door on Woolgar Ave.

Gillard called the radio stations and phoned parents to tell them what happened.

She said they were all good about it even though most of the six day care centres in the city are full.

"That's why I was so concerned," she said, adding "We don't have a lot of things damaged but there was some building damage."
