Yellowknife (Sep 07/01) - The family search for a man wanted for attempted murder continues.

The Yellowknives Dene First Nation is supporting the Villebrun family in the search for Ronald Roy Villebrun, who allegedly hit his ex-girlfriend with an axe on Aug. 26.

"We are asking him to turn himself in and let people know he is OK," said Dettah chief Rick Edjericon. The band appealed to the public to help in their search earlier this week. It has now been nearly two weeks with no sign of the man police want to arrest and the family is fearing he may be in serious danger.

"It is any parent's nightmare, to try and find out if he is alright or not," Edjericon said. "It appears the public doesn't really want to help ... in order to find out if he is OK or passed on."

Edjericon also felt the "media frenzy" surrounding the incident has overshadowed the fact that a man, requiring medication for a past brain injury and a thyroid disorder, is missing.
