Iqaluit (Sept 03/01) - An Iqaluit woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 44-year-old man.

Jeannie Manning, 42, of Iqaluit, was charged after Davidee Adla, also of Iqaluit, died early Saturday following a stabbing at house 800.

Other than releasing the names of the suspect and victim and the charge, police are saying little about the incident.

"We want all our ducks in a row," said Iqaluit RCMP Cpl. Dave Kalist.

What provoked the early morning attack is not known.

Police responded to a call of a stabbing at 3 a.m. Sept. 1 behind Capital Suites apartments. How many other adults or children, if any, were in the house is not known.

When police arrived on the scene, they found Adla, formerly of Cape Dorset, with at least one stab wound to the back of his neck. He was later pronounced dead at Baffin Regional Hospital.

Other than yellow police tape around the small beige house and an officer knocking on doors, the neighbourhood remained quiet later that day.
