The challenge takes place Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and from 7 to -9 p.m. During those times, people are urged to read for 15 minutes and then report their reading. Inuvik residents can call the library.

The event is intended to promote the importance of reading on a daily basis.

Many activities are planned in Inuvik, starting on Saturday with a used book sale from 12-4 p.m. at the Inuvik Centennial Library.

On Sunday, from 2-5 p.m., community leaders are to read to children at the library.

The public is invited to a luncheon at Ingamo Hall on Monday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

On Wednesday Sir Alexander Mackenzie and Samuel Hearne schools will have a classroom challenge.

Canadian author Richard Scrimger will visit several NWT communities during the week. He is in Yellowknife this Saturday and visits Helen Kalvak school in Holman on Monday.

Scrimger will conduct readings at SAMS next Wednesday morning and at Samuel Hearne that afternoon, before holding a reading that evening at the library, beginning at 7 p.m.

On Oct. 4 Scrimger reads again at SAMS in the morning, before reading during lunch at the Aurora College cafeteria (staff, students and their families are invited).

Literacy Week closes Oct. 5 at the Aurora College resource room, with the presentation of literacy awards, starting at 3 p.m.
