Yellowknife (Aug 20/01) - Women who want to find out more about breast cancer will soon have access to some new titles at their local public libraries.

The NWT Breast Health/Breast Cancer Action Group has donated $800 worth of books to the nine public libraries in the Territories. Each library will receive at least one copy of Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book, and Breast Cancer, by Ivo Olivotto, Karen Gelmon and Urve Kuusk. Some libraries will also receive a video about breast cancer entitled At the Water's Edge.

"We're really excited about being able to do this," said Judy Williams, chair of the group. "Everyone's sort of at different points when they face a diagnosis of breast cancer. We want to make sure women have access to the information."

The director for the territorial libraries says the books will be well used.

"That's one of the things people come to libraries to look for -- health," said Sandy MacDonald, territorial librarian. "They'll come in and ask for it and it's good for the librarians to have something current."

The action group is funded by Health Canada.
