Kelowna B.C. (Aug 15/01) - During the weekend of June 8, 9, and 10, Northerners reunited in Kelowna, B.C., for the 15th annual NWT Reunion.

Friday was a patio and pool party at the home of Brian and Keith McLeod in Oyama for the early arrivals. Saturday night the second annual Pub Night was held at the Legion in Kelowna and Sunday was the main event at the Bear Creek Provincial Park picnic area.

Each year we seem to be increasing events by one -- at this rate, it will soon become a week-long event! (Just kidding!)

Although numbers of people were down somewhat from last year, we still had over 240 guests sign our registration book. Hopefully, with continuing networking, we can get the numbers up over the 300 mark.

We would like to thank the city of Yellowknife for its generous contribution of pins and various brochures. They were very popular items, and many old-time Northerners were extremely interested in seeing a changed Yellowknife.

Thanks to Northern News Services for supplying "The Yellowknifer" newspapers at the reunions and for their faithful coverage of this event each year.

Another first was having the Seniors's book, Yellowknife Tales, available at the reunion for anyone to purchase. Thanks to Barb Bromley for making them available, to Liz and Mike Maybroda for transporting them, and to Hilya Hall for her great book-selling efforts.

Our appreciation goes to all those who travelled so far to be with us and to help make our reunion such a success again this year. This was the first-time attendance of Cliff and Anne Bawden, who were a former principal and former member of DMS respectively; and Jim Eis, a favourite teacher and friend to many at YPS.
