Iqaluit (Aug 13/01) - Two people died and another person was seriously injured in a helicopter crash on Baffin Island's west coast Thursday.

Dead are Charles Caron, 35, of Quebec City, and Mike Daniska, 22, of Victoria.

Adam Paneak, 49, of Clyde River, was medevaced to first to Iqaluit's Baffin Regional Hospital and later transferred south

The crash site is near a Cominco Mines exploration camp on Air Force Island between Hall Beach and Cape Dorset.

RCMP V Division Cpl. Greg Bursey called the area "remote" and said communication to the site was "slow going." A response team composed of members of the RCMP and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada investigators flew to the site Friday.
