Yellowknife (July 06/01) - A driver will soon be getting a first hand glimpse of the full cost of emergency service.

While heading west on the Ingraham Trail Wednesday night, the driver's vehicle slid off the road while rounding a turn between Madeline and Pontoon lakes.

The embankment dropped away into a small bog about two metres below road level. The vehicle came to a rest with its front wheels in the edge of the bog.

One person was taken by ambulance to hospital as a result of the crash. The other was unhurt and remained at the scene.

Seated in the passenger side of the large pink vehicle, he seemed oblivious to the hungry mosquitoes feeding on the emergency crews that responded to the accident.

"There was no apparent damage to the vehicle," said deputy fire chief Mike Lowing.

Because the accident occurred outside city limits the city's fire department will be charging the driver a user fee for the ambulance.

As of deadline, RCMP had released no information on the incident.
