Inuvik (July 13/01) - Work is under way to expand and improve the recreational boat dock. The current dock is to be made twice as large, and to its left a new spring boat launch will be put in place.

A barrier will be put in place next to the docks to prevent people from pulling boats out of the water in certain areas. Several picnic tables, benches and street lights are to be put in place, and the entire area is to be covered with gravel.

Grass will be planted in some areas, and more parking spaces are planned. As well, one parking lot will be set aside for trailers.

Among other changes, more structures for mooring boats will be put in place.

The town committed up to $25,000 for the project, and businesses have made cash or in-kind donations. They include True Value, Rexall Drugs, Rocky's Plumbing, McDonald Brothers Electric Ltd., Arctic Esso, Arctic Tire, Bob's Welding, NTPC, Mackenzie Delta Hotel Group, Northern Management, Northwind and Dowland Contracting Ltd.
