Inuvik (Jun 29/01) - A long-time resident is leaving town.
Bob Connors heads out July 6 for Jasper, Alberta. Connors, who taught adult education at Aurora College, will join his wife in down stouth.
Speaking at a farewell barbecue recently, Connors explained his wife has been working in Jasper for the last two years.
"I had to make a decision," Connors said. "This back and forth there and here, it's not the same.
"And I suppose at the end of the day, a fellow's not getting any younger," he said with a laugh.
Connors said he and his wife will stay in Jasper until she decides to retire, after which they will return to their native Newfoundland.
"I don't know what I'll do in Jasper," Connors confessed. "I'll probably put a few tools in my truck and do some odd jobs for people."
Connors has enjoyed his stay here.
"I'll be going with some misgivings. I liked it, I enjoyed it while I was here. The town and the people are good and the students are good."
Connors had to resign as grand knight with the Knights of Columbus of Inuvik, but said he'll probably join the knights in Hinton (a town just east of Jasper).
"One way or another, I will stay involved," he said.
