Inuvik (Jun 22/01) - The Inuvik RCMP are still investigating last week's theft at the greenhouse.

Corp. Jeff Hurry said Monday that it was uncertain how many people were involved, but noted the sum involved, $2,500, was high for a theft in this area.

"We're hoping the community will assist us in this investigation too, by kind of keeping an eye out," Hurry said.

He said the detachment has seen a slight rise in break and enters over the past two months.

"I don't know what to attribute that to," said Hurry, explaining that the number usually goes down at this time of year (with the sun being out around the clock).

"But people are out more, they're out longer," Hurry pointed out.

"It's all just opportunity. They take advantage of a door ajar or an insecure premise."

He said these break and enters should serve as a wakeup call to business owners to ensure their properties are secure.

"You need more than a lock, Hurry suggested. "You need a deadbolt." .
