Iqaluit (Jun 11/01) - Every job has perks. In Eric Leuthold's case, it's an evening of tantalizing Arctic food.

The tour consultant belongs to the newly formed Iqaluit Tourism Business Association. The association is re-launching the Arctic Food Celebration June 13 at Inuksuk school.

Prepare to have your palate pampered, Leuthold said.

The finest fish, shellfish and wild meat will be prepared into bite-sized portions by three of Iqaluit's most experienced chefs. Organizers hope to inspire cooks of all ages and abilities.

Red Thai caribou curry and muskox bourguignon are on the list. When pressed for menu details, Leuthold kept his cards hidden.

"You'll have to see. it's top secret," he said.

Some 300 people are expected to attend.

The popular event, re-launched after a two-year hiatus, is as much for locals as it is for tourists, he said.

Leuthold worked for the federal government for five years before he branching into tourism with Jimi Onalik.

"There is so much to do here. It's easy for someone who is creative and energetic to stay," he said.

Until he came North, Leuthold had only read about muskox, char and caribou. Now he's surrounded by it.

Look for Leuthold near the caribou samples.

"I love it all," he said.

Drum dancers and a show of sealskin fashions are scheduled.

Tickets are $30 and are available at the Frobisher Inn, Unikkaarvik Visitor's Centre and D.J. Sensations.
