Tuktoyaktuk (May 25/01) - A man suffered at least two stab wounds to the chest area during a Tuktoyaktuk party and a 17-year-old is now facing a charge of aggravated assault.
John Stuart Jr., 21, was medevaced to Yellowknife after being stabbed Saturday, according to Tuktoyaktuk RCMP. He has since been released from Stanton Regional Hospital. Police are still investigating the incident.
The RCMP were called at about 11:50 that morning. They seized several items and do not yet know what kind of weapon Stuart was thought to have been assaulted with.
"At this point we are not quite sure," said Const. Wayne Bent.
Police report that several people were lingering at the house, where drinking was taking place, when they arrived.
The suspect, whose identity cannot be published due to provisions of the Young Offenders Act, was released from custody after being charged with assault.
He is scheduled to appear in court in Tuktoyaktuk on July 18.
