Yellowknife (May 16/01) - Now that 20-year-old writer Bajram Memedouski is president of a Toronto publishing company, he is setting his sights on somewhat loftier goals.
"One of my long-term goals is to become the ambassador to the republic of Macedonia. This may seem far fetched to some people, but so did launching my own publishing company," said Memedouski.
Considering this young man is fluent in five languages, including Portuguese, French and Spanish, maybe a career as an international diplomat is not so far-fetched after all.
"Sydney, Australia, is where I plan to raise a family when I am 30, but in my heart, Yellowknife will always be my true home, he said.
Setting lofty goals for myself was easy because of the love and support of my family," he added.
Although he was born in Toronto, Memedouski considers Yellowknife his permanent residence as he has lived here most of his life and has family here as well.
His company is called Simply Irresistible Publishing and was started Nov. 4, 2000, in order to give young writers a forum and some confidence.
"I want to give young writers the knowledge and help I didn't have when I wrote my first book. I want them to say I can do that."
"When you see a Simply Irresistible Publishing logo on a book, you know it was written for teens by a teen," he added.
When he wrote his first book at the age of 17, Memedouski was disillusioned with his would-be publisher for forcing a pen-name on him, making major changes and then simply shelving the book.
The first six chapters of his latest effort, titled You Say Nothing at All, are available to anybody online.
