Yellowknife (May 11/01) - If you want a camping spot along the Ingraham trail this summer, you might want to head out to Fred Henne Park this Sunday.
Fifteen seasonal campsites at Prelude Lake and 13 at Reid Lake are up for draw May 13, between 12 noon and 3 p.m., as Park Services gets set for another busy summer.
To enter the draw, interested parties must attend in person with a check or money order for $500. Those names not drawn will receive a refund. Only one ballot per person is permitted.
According to Gary Tees, co-ordinator for Park Services North Slave Region, all available sites are expected to be snapped up quickly.
"I would say that the turnout will be almost four to one (balloter to site ratio)," says Tees.
Territorial campgrounds in the North Slave region are open for another season, beginning May 15 and running through until mid-September.
Even though a recent stint of cold weather has likely dampened enthusiasm for the time being, Tees expects the campgrounds to be up and running by opening day.
"There's still a lot of snow on the (Ingraham) Trail, but we've had guys in there clearing out the sites just yesterday," says Tees.
