Yellowknife (Apr 30/01) - Ethel Blondin-Andrew was the big spender in the Nov. 27 federal election, according to a report on candidates' expenses and contributions.

The four-term MP's biggest contributor was her well-connected riding association, which provided just under a quarter of the contributions used to finance Blondin-Andrew's $107,000 campaign.

The Liberal total was almost three times that spent by the next richest campaign, that of NDP candidate Dennis Bevington.

Excluding personal expenses of $50,137.79 (mainly for travel), Blondin-Andrew's election spending was $8,457 below the riding limit of $64,955.

Progressive Conservative Bruce McLaughlin has yet to file a complete return.
