Inuvik (Mar 23/01) - If it wasn't for the selfless work of volunteers, there would be no scouts, guides, or other programs like them.

To honour those who give their time to the 1st Inuvik Scouts group, a dinner was held March 18 at Ingamo Hall.

Plaques were awarded to three long-term members that evening.

Ron Morrison started with the group in 1996, and Louis Bryant in 1994.

Sheila Mattson started 10 years ago and thanked Scout leader Dave Tyler, as well as Doris Tyler, for giving the group "a very big boost" since their arrival in town.

Certificates of appreciation were given to Deb Enoch, president of the Inuvik Lion's Club, as well as Bertha Campbell and Valerie Jefferd.

Section leaders also received recognition. The Beavers leaders are Tom Short, Doris Tyler, Cheryl Allen and Jeff Hurry.

Cubs leaders are Shauna Kayotuk, Len MacDonald and Sonia Vukorepa. Scouts leaders are Dave Tyler and Alan Fehr.

Also recognized were group committee members Robert Campbell, April Conway, Susie Driscoll, David Bethune, Valerie Jefferd, Indu Sharma, Doris Tyler and Jeff Hurry. Sheila Waite was also acknowledged, as she served on the committee recently.

Dave Tyler said the dinner was a good way for leaders and parents to become better acquainted.

He added the event is traditionally held during Scout Guide Week in February, but it was delayed because a lot of people were out of town then.
