Inuvik (Mar 23/01) - Sherry Rioux says it's sometimes hard being president, but she always gets a little help from friends.

"Overall it's really good. I have a lot of help from the other members," said the president of the 2001 Samuel Hearne Grad Committee.

"There's about five or six of us that are always there and always participating."

The committee is hard at work raising funds.

Students recently shared the concession at the Midnight Sun Recreation Complex for one weekend with Inuvik Preschool.

Sherry Rioux said business was good but the amount made has yet to be determined.

She added the grads are also trying to get together a tent for the Muskrat Jamboree. As well, every Saturday for a month students are selling tickets for the Legion's Ski-Doo raffle. The committee may hold another dance in the near future, and plans to hold a car wash soon.

Plus, a special draw is coming up April 14.

"We're organizing a raffle for a 26-pound, three-foot high chocolate bunny for Easter," said Rioux, who explained the rather large rabbit was donated by a parent.

She said things are going better than when she was student council president two years ago.

"I was younger in student council and so was everyone else, so it was kind of hard to do some things sometimes."

Every Friday the grads hold a hot dog lunch at the school.

"We just had all our hot dogs taken from us. We're pretty upset."

Rioux said it's unclear yet whether the hot dog sales will continue.

"We did make a profit when we did it, but it wasn't much for all the stuff we had to go through to get it done and stuff like that. I'm not sure if it's worth it."
