Shots fired in Good Hope

Northern News Services

Fort Good Hope (Mar 12/01) - Guns were used in a pair of domestic disputes in this Mackenzie River valley community of 700.

Two officers were called to a residence at about 3:30 a.m. March 9 after shots were fired in a domestic dispute.

A suspect had put the high-powered rifle down before police arrived.

A lone RCMP officer responded to a second incident a few minutes later. He used his vehicle to ram a suspect's truck when a man attempted to flee a scene with an 11-year-old boy.

The boy was freed unharmed and the suspect was held until the other officers arrived on the scene.

The death four days earlier of Cape Dorset RCMP Const. Jurgen Seewald while attending a domestic dispute "was on our minds, believe us," said Const. Craig Seafoot last Friday.

Two men are facing charges.
