Yellowknife (Feb 09/01) - Yellowknife will have a significant presence in an inaugural show of photography by Northern women.

On March 8 photographic works by women will be on display in an International Women's Day show, Film Fatale. The show opens March 8 at 7 p.m. in the Nunatta Sunakkataangit Museum in Iqaluit.

It's organized by Northern News Services' Kerry McCluskey.

"For many years I organized International Women's Day activities, but I haven't done anything since I came North," she said.

"Photography is something I've concentrated a huge amount of time on. This is something in which I could combine both things."

So far, 12 women from across the North, including four Yellowknifers, have expressed an interest in taking part.

McCluskey said the show is open only to women and their photos can be on any theme.

She will do a slide show on Northern graveyards.

To include works in the show, women need to provide McCluskey with a written expression of interest by Feb. 19.

That should include a description of what the work is. Photos have to be in Iqaluit by March 1.

She hoped the show could also be staged in Yellowknife in the near future.

Women interested in joining the show can call McCluskey at 867-979-0803 or send an e-mail to crazychimpy@hotmail.com.
