Inuvik (Feb 09/01) - The fee structure remains the same following the inaugural annual general meeting of the Chamber of Commerce of Inuvik.

Facts

Chamber executive:

  • President: Derek Lindsay
  • Vice-president: Kevin Braun
  • Secretary: Tamie Littlechilds
  • Treasurer: Paul Watters Directors:
  • Brian Desjardins, George Doolittle, Lyle Neis, Tom Zubko, Gene Nikiforuk, Dennie Lennie, Lillian Brewster and Mary Beckett.

  • While the chamber was forming, an early bird membership had been in place. The 25 people at the meeting decided to keep the current rates going to the end of the year.

The chamber's fees are $50 for home-based businesses and $100 for others.

Derek Lindsay was elected president at the meeting, which was held Feb. 1. Lindsay said he hoped the fees would encourage more businesses to sign up. The chamber has about 40 members.

Lindsay said that for the next little while members will need to chart the course of the chamber.

"I tried to get some ideas tonight of what people want. It's a diverse group," Lindsay said.

"You're always going to get different ideas. And that's fine, as long as you can come to a consensus on something, we're going ahead that way. I just don't want us to become a stagnant group."

Lindsay said he's tired of people comparing the present group to the old chamber, which folded some time ago.

"Let's go ahead," Lindsay said. "Let's just kick butt."
