Yellowknife (Feb 07/01) - Randy Yellowknifers now have a place to spice up their love lives. Surprisingly, no one seems too upset about it.

Intimate Secrets, a lingerie, intimate apparel and adult novelty store, opened last Friday in the Monkey Tree Plaza.

For shy types who may not want to shop in the store itself, purchases can soon be made online.

"We've got the Web page coming very soon," says Intimate Secrets' co-owner Katrina Dunn.

Dunn and partner Nadine McMenemy spent two months prior to opening doing market research and polling residents.

The response, says Dunn, "was better than we thought."

Workers were still putting the finishing touches on the store last week, and all the stock had not yet arrived, but Dunn said e-mails were coming in fast and furious.

"I had one from a guy who said it's about time we got something like this here."

Robert Slaven, a former city councillor, was non-committal when told of the store's opening.

"I'm not sure if I have anything to say on that," he said. "They're going to open and as long as they're not in anybody's face, then they're going to be there. But we'll see."

Dunn thinks any criticism that may arise should be blunted by the store's out-of-the way location and the discreet layout of the shop.

"We're not set up as some big city triple-x store with flashing neon lights," she says.

"It's set up to be non-offensive," pointing to the curtains which separate the lingerie in the front from the adult videos, and other products in the back.
