Yellowknife (Feb 28/01) - A fund-raiser for the Yellowknife Youth Konnection helped raise some much-needed money Saturday night to help more than 50 Yellowknife youth travel to Edmonton for an upcoming conference.

The YC 2001 Transform a Nation conference is a Christian event that focuses on the gathering together of Christian youth.

On Saturday more than 150 youth attended a pasta extravaganza evening to raise money for the upcoming trip.

"We believe this event will have a very beneficial impact, not only on the youth attending but also on their peers," said Rod Rysavy, one of the organizers.

"We believe that as the young people of our community grow in all aspects of their lives, of which we believe that the spiritual component is most vital, the community of Yellowknife and surrounding area will be directly influenced."

Rysavy said the Youth Konnection is looking for community support to raise approximately $13,000.

The youth are planning on raising funds by providing the community with services and events that encourage positive community growth.

"One of the ways that you might consider supporting us is to donate any items of services for a silent auction that we are holding," Rysavy said. Approximately 150 youth are involved in the Yellowknife Youth Konnection and 57 youth will be attending the conference.
