Inuvik (Jan 26/01) - It's time to dig out those old dancing shoes.
A series of dance lessons are to be held Feb. 9-11 at the Inuvik campus of Aurora College.
Session one is on social foxtrot, samba and rumba. Another session covers the waltz and cha cha, and session three covers swing and jive. Youth lessons will also be offered.
People can sign up for one or more sessions, and deadline for registration is Friday. Response so far has been good, according to Shauna MacKay, co-ordinator of continuing education.
MacKay noted this marks the first time the campus here has offered dance lessons.
"I've been trying to offer a greater selection of greater interest courses for the community over the past few years," MacKay said.
She explained that due to a shortage of people within the community to teach courses, she sometimes has to bring in instructors from outside town to teach for weekend sessions.
"It's not always the best way to do it. People would like to have longer term courses," MacKay said. "At least it gives people a taste of the different types of general interest activity out there."
Dance instructor will be Bob MacKenzie of Whitehorse.
