Yellowknife (Jan 17/01) - There's some new denim coming to town.

Warehouse One, which specializes in jeans, plans to open its new Yellowknife store Feb. 22.

"We're expanding and Yellowknife is a good, strong market. There's business to be had," said Sandra Hagenaars, Warehouse One director of mass marketing and advertising.

The Yellowknife store will be Warehouse One's 71st location.

The company, started in Winnipeg by entrepreneur Max Maryk, is aiming to have 200 stores operational by the end of 2002.

Back in 1974, Maryk started selling jeans out of the trunk of his 1968 Ford LTD.

On prices, Hagenaars said Warehouse One's prices are consistent throughout all of their stores. Yellowknifers will pay the same price here as they would at any of the company's other locations, she said.

As well, adds Hagenaars, 95 per cent of Warehouse One's merchandise is Canadian manufactured.

"We're aiming for 100 per cent Canadian made," Hagenaars said.

Warehouse One will employ 13 staff. It is anticipated three staff will be full-time.

The Yellowknife store, located beside Video Headquarters, is being built by Clark Builders.

Owner of the building is Medicine Hat-based company Rick Holdings Ltd.
