Inuvik (Nov 03/00) - Personal bankers at the CIBC branch here turn to Marina Simon for help.

A sales assistant at the bank since June, she books appointments, registers security for loans, and does any extra paperwork that they need customers to come in and sign.

"I also help out the tellers when they need help," Simon said.

"I don't get a lot of customer interaction with the position I'm in now, but I do get to answer the phones. I like helping solve the customer's problem.

"If the customer didn't get a statement or there's a posting error on their account, I help a lot with that stuff."

Simon started off at the bank in February as a teller and said she didn't expect to get promoted so soon, but that she's enjoying it.

"I wasn't expecting to catch on as quickly as I did.

"I was expecting a much more difficult job," Simon said.

"There's a lot entailed, a lot of training and a lot more I still need to learn. I've been in this position now since June, so it's an ongoing process. You learn something new just about every single day."

Simon said a lot of training occurs at the branch.

"There are correspondence courses and things like that you can take. We do a lot of staff meetings for training," she said.

"On my first month on the job I was really asking a lot of questions and getting a lot of help from people," Simon said. "It's a nice atmosphere. People here are good to work with. Everyone works together. If you've got a problem, someone will come and help you do it.

"It's all everyone works together, which is really good. "You don't find that a lot in a lot of places you work,"she said.
