Inuvik (Nov 24/00) - Meeting the people is the best part of the job for a new employee at Northern Images Arts and Crafts.
"I'm a real people person," explained Lucy-Anne Carroll, who began at the store early this month. "I like talking to everyone and finding out where they're from."
Carroll said many customers want to know where items were made.
"They want things that are locally made. They don't want things that come from, like, Winnipeg or anything like that," Carroll said.
"A lot of the people that come in right now are with the oil company; they're coming in to buy gifts." she said.
"They're all pretty friendly and bringing in lots of business, so that's always good."
Carroll works full-time and does a little bit of everything.
"I run the till, I do some light office work," said Carroll, who's originally from Fort McPherson.
"I do money transfers, we're part of a co-op across the North," said Carroll, who does beadwork.
"Usually I do my beadwork and when somebody comes in I come out and help them."
Her favourite items at the store are the parkas, and the carvings too.
"A lot of them are really neat. I can't say there's anything I really dislike."
She said the job is enjoyable and that she gets on well with her co-workers.
"It's a good job, it's a good place to be."
