Election jobs ahead for 400

Yellowknife (Oct 09/00) - As many as 400 short-term jobs will open up if a federal election is called.

David Connelly, returning officer for the Western Arctic, said that workers will be needed in every community of the Northwest Territories.

"Many of the jobs will be short-term, for only a few days during the advance polls and on election day," Connelly said. "Susan Long-Poacher has been appointed the training officer."

In addition to deputy returning officers and polling clerks and many other jobs, translators and information officers in many communities will be needed.
