Tuktoyaktuk (Jun 19/00) - A 25-year-old man has been charged with second degree murder in the stabbing death of a Tuktoyaktuk woman.

The body of Rosa Chicksi, 41, was discovered at a residence by RCMP at noon on Thursday. Police say it appears she died from a stab wound to the chest.

A man was arrested shortly afterwards.

RCMP from Tuktoyaktuk, as well as from the major crimes unit and the forensic identification section in Yellowknife, were continuing their investigation Friday afternoon.

Chicksi's body was to be flown to Edmonton for an autopsy.

Friday afternoon, police charged a resident of Tuktoyaktuk, with second degree murder.

He appeared briefly before a Justice of the Peace in Tuktoyaktuk where he was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court June 20 in Inuvik.
