Iqaluit ( May 29/00) - Preliminary autopsy results released last week failed to determine how an Iqaluit resident died.

The body of Kenneth Jeffrey Kelly, 29, was found on May 20 in his apartment in the six-storey building.

Administrative coroner Tim Neily told News/North last week Kelly was found by a family member around 6 or 7 p.m., and that he had been employed at First Air in Iqaluit.

"So far, from the preliminary autopsy results, there's nothing obvious to explain or give a cause of death," Neily explained.

"So in other words, we know it wasn't a heart attack or a natural illness -- so far that we can tell," he said.

"But certainly there are other toxicology and histology examinations that will be going on," Neily said.

"Generally, the toxicology and histology sections are included in the final, formal report from the pathologist. I wouldn't expect that probably for at least four or five or six weeks."

Neily said the case is not being treated as a suspicious death.

"There's no indication of any suspicious events leading up to the death, or any foul play at all. It's being treated certainly as a sudden and unexpected death."
