Yellowknife ( May 29/00) - A 22-year-old man arrested at the Yellowknife Airport with a substantial amount of cocaine will appear in territorial court in Yellowknife May 30.

Conrad David Fraser, a Hay River resident, was detained by Yellowknife RCMP drug section members May 21, when he got off a flight from Edmonton. Approximately $300,000 worth of the drug was seized.

"It was a joint investigation in Alberta and Yellowknife and we arrested him as he departed the plane and tried to leave the airport," said Yellowknife Staff Sgt. Dave Grundy.

Fraser was held in custody in Yellowknife on charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking, and was scheduled for a show cause hearing -- similar to a bail hearing -- on May 25.

Since Fraser's defence lawyer didn't have a chance to review the Crown's case against his client, he agreed to postpone the matter until Tuesday.

An investigation related to this matter is continuing in both the Northwest Territories and Alberta and subsequent arrests may be pending, according to RCMP.
