Yellowknife (May 01/00) - Premier Stephen Kakfwi, deputy minister Bob McLeod and assistant deputy minister of operations Bob Bailey were in the Settlement Council meeting last week.

This was one stop on the premier's tour of the communities and it was the first time a premier had officially visited Enterprise.

Also, the Minister for Housing and Youth, Roger Allen, was in Enterprise last week.

He addressed the community and told them his department's intention is to consult with and gather input from all the communities.

Accompanying Roger Allen were his executive assistant, Tom Williams, MLAs Michael McLeod of the Deh Cho and Leon Lafferty of North Slave, Tom Beaulieu, president of the NWT Housing Corporation, and Tom Makepeace Director for the South Slave District of the Corporation. Lafferty was along as an observer.

The minister said the department will work with the communities to build affordable housing within the current fiscal restraints.

They are looking at innovative and inexpensive ways to heat homes and to build houses. In Lafferty's constituency they are considering building log homes because the trees are there and log homes are less expensive to build than stick-built houses.

After the meeting, Michael McLeod presented a certificate to Bonnie and Cliff Kimble and their children, Stephanie, Katie-Lyn and Brandon, who have received an honourable mention in the Good Neighbour awards for volunteers.

The Kimble family wanted every community member present to be in the picture. Bonnie said, "because they all volunteer."
