Yellowknife (Jan 07/00) - Two Yellowknife drinking establishments face possible suspension of their liquor licences next week.

The Black Knight pub and the Yellowknife Racquet Club have been ordered by the territorial government's liquor licensing board to appear at a show cause hearing next Friday on unrelated liquor licence violations.

The Racquet Club faces one allegation of allowing persons to consume liquor in a licensed establishment during unlicensed hours.

The Black Knight also faces the same allegation, as well as a count of allowing persons other than the licence holders or staff members in the bar 15 minutes or later after closing time.

Liquor licensing board manager Delilah St. Arneault said both establishments have been informed of the hearings.

"The hearing is also open to the public," St. Arneault said.

Kelli Hinchey, co-owner of the Yellowknife Racquet Club, called the charge "absolutely stupid."

"A cop came in at quarter after three on the night of our Christmas party while we were cleaning up," she said.

Hinchey said the club's lawyer has advised her not to give any more information.

"I want to talk about it but I really can't until after the hearing," she said.

The Black Knight's co-owner and general manager, Willie Elder, was not available for comment.

The hearings will be held in the Garnet Room of the Yellowknife Inn Jan. 14. The Black Knight's hearing begins at 9 a.m., while the Racquet Club hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m.
