Missing tooth
Searching for the vane in vain

Yellowknife (Dec 15/99) - The tooth-shaped weather vane that sat atop the roof of the Adam Dental Clinic is missing.

"We had been away, it must've been the weekend of November 20th. Someone said that they had seen it, then it was gone," says Charlene Adam, who works at the clinic.

"We looked in the snow, but it couldn't have fallen. It was bolted and fit into a big metal pole that goes down into the building," she explains, adding, "It is very heavy, about two feet tall."

Nobody at the clinic can figure out a motive for the theft. Though there are no grounds for speculation, witnesses had spotted some children trying to climb the roof.

"We're upset because we had it specially made,"

says Adam.

"We went to a craft show in Denver about five years back. I saw this company out of California, so we had them design a vane in the shape of our logo (a large molar) ... it was made of copper. There is no other like it."

Only the four cardinal points remain at the spot where the vane was located.

Though no one has filed a police report yet, the public is asked to keep an eye out for the missing molar.
