Fort Resolution (Nov 29/99) - A terminated employment contract has Fort Resolution's Euen Hunter crying foul.

Hunter has sought legal action against his former employer, the Nuni Ye Development Corporation, after he was terminated after one month into a five-year contract.

Present manager of Nuni Ye, Pearl Lafferty, refused to comment on the matter as did Hunter, who is letting his lawyer do the talking.

Wayne Petersen, a partner with North and Company, a law firm in Lethbridge, Alta., said he and his client are not yet anticipating court action.

"At this point in time it's not even a lawsuit," Petersen said. "It's just correspondence to his former employer as to why he was terminated a couple of months into a five-year employment contract."

While the attorney said they hope to avoid a court case, they have yet to receive a response from his letter.

"We haven't heard anything back," he said.

"These things usually start with a letter simply outlining our position and requesting some kind of response as to their position."

Petersen said the action involves the wrongful dismissal of his client following six years of employment with the corporation and the signing of an employment contract.

"He was the general manager for a significant time -- from about '92 until he was offered a five-year contract in '98, which he accepted," Petersen said.

"A written document was completed and signed by both parties and he was terminated a month later."
