Wrigley (Nov 26/99) - Albert Moses defeated his brother, David Moses, in an election for Pehdzeh Ki chief Friday.

"I guess some of his friends told him, 'Run against him,'" Albert Moses said, chuckling. He added that nobody wanted to see an acclamation situation.

It was decided that the vote count will remain within the community, and is not for public consumption, according to electoral officer Eric Menicoche.

Albert was acting chief in Wrigley for about five months last year and had served as chief in the 1980s. He said he chose to run in this election because other band members requested he be a candidate.

"It's just time for new leadership I think," he said.

Of the 13 candidates to let their names stand for band council seats, the following were elected: former chief Tim Lennie, Eddie Gargan, Mike Canadien, Elsie Hardisty, Mary Alice Christopher and Wally Antoine.

Albert met with his council for the first time on Monday morning. Among the issues they discussed were the winter road contract, election procedures and the roles and responsibilities of council and staff.

He ex-pressed confidence in the six councillors selected by band members.

"They've been around a lot of politics. I think they're pretty good councillors this time around. They'll probably help lots," he said. "As a leader you've got to have support. I don't think I'll be making too much decisions on my own. I'll probably do what the public wants ... they like to be involved. I think that's what they really want."
