NNSL (Oct 22/99) - Deana Twissell was elected to the Yellowknife Education District 1 board with 634 votes, following Wednesday's election. The next nearest candidate, Dale Thomson, received 332 votes.

Twissell was born and raised in Yellowknife. She has served on the board of directors of a parent-run day care for two years and is currently a board planning consultant for the Department of Health and Social Services.

"It gives me a lot of confidence to know that so many voted for me," Twissell said.

"I received strong support during the campaign and I'd just like to thank everyone who elected me to the school board."
