FORT SIMPSON (July 23/99) - Fire officials have determined that the fire at Deh Cho Hall last week in Fort Simpson was intentionally set.

Fire Chief Pat Rowe said the results of his investigation into the fire have been turned over to local RCMP.

While he's sure the fire was intentionally started, lab results will determine exactly what caused the blaze.

"Once the lab does their tests, we'll be able to determine exactly what the accelerant was used to start the fire," Rowe said.

He said his original estimation of damage to the building remains between $300,000 to $500,000.

Fort Simpson RCMP have taken over the investigation and Sgt. Larry Wright said they have already established some leads in the arson.

"The investigation has determined the fire was deliberately set," Wright said. "We have a few leads we're following up on as the investigation continues."

Police are seeking any information in relation to this crime.
