NNSL (Mar 08/99) - Two Hay River residents were arrested and charged with drug trafficking, when Edmonton city police discovered 3,000 grams of marijuana concealed in the accused's vehicle.

Charged are Foster Norwegian and Trina Jones Lafferty, both of Hay River.

Yellowknife RCMP said the arrest follows a two-week investigation leading to the arrest.

"These guys went down to Edmonton looking to buy some pot," Staff Sergeant Dave Grundy said. "They did, and they were taken down by Edmonton city police."

The pair were arrested just west of Edmonton, in Stoney Plain, Grundy said.

Police also seized $850 in cash, and the couple's 1997 GMC Sierra pickup truck.

Both Norwegian and Lafferty were remanded in custody pending a court appearance.
